Shinobi Of The Night Preview - Chapter 1

A short preview for Shinobi Of The Night, a fic I'm posting up exclusively on Quizilla and Anime Spiral (for now).  Click HERE  for the character information page at Quizilla.

This is actually an insert from the first draft of the first chapter, but it's not going to be too much different from the finished draft to be put up this weekend.

.::~Start Preview~::.

One miso ramen, please,” you said quietly to the worker who noticed your presence. Despite how softly you had spoken, it seemed to get the attention to the two males on the other end of the shop, but you didn't dare look in fear that they would try to strike up conversation with you. Sinking lower in your seat until your order arrived, you reached up, unconsciously flipping your hitai-ai around so that it couldn't as easily be seen.

Sensing someone approaching you from your side, you turned your face around slowly only to have warm breath being blown on your face. You jumped back in surprise, forcing the heat from your cheeks that came from being so close to this boy. “What the hell was that for?!” He didn't seem perturbed by your cursing.

Who are you?” he asked, and before giving you time to answer, said, “You're about my age, right? So why do you have a ninja headband?”

“Great, already being confronted...,” you murmured to yourself, looking away from his gaze; it was making you feel really nervous, and his bright orange jumpsuit was blinding you....

What?”

Eh! Sorry, gotta go!” Turning and running off swiftly, you left the confused boy back at the shop.

...well, someone's going to have to pay for this ramen.”

The boy turned towards the ramen shop worker who had just come to deliver your ramen. A sweatdrop ran down the back of his head as he turned and called out, “Iruka-sensei!”

.::Info::.

Name: Nodoshita Hitoko [No-do-she-tuh, He-to-ko] (last name, first name; The last name is a combination of the words 'quiet' and 'calm', while the first name is a combination of 'hidden' and 'strength'. Yes, I have a great liking for portmanteaus.)

Nicknames: Her parents never gave her any such endearing nickname, and she never had any friends growing up to give her any friendly nicknames. However, over time, nicknames like Hito-chan, Hi-chan, and others are used. :)

Gender: Female

Age: 13

Birthday: 27 January

Physical Appearance: (Note: If you don't like your looks, feel free to imagine it as otherwise. It doesn't bother me, but I'm personally a little drained of using things like '__First Name__' anymore.) When left undone, long, black hair falls past your shoulders, landing near your mid-back in large tufts. On the side, your bangs shadow your face, covering the left side of your face completely leaving the other side in clear view. [You keep your Rekkai activated in that eye at all times.] The rest of your bangs are brushed off to the side, out of the way of your face, revealing one bright green eye, outlined in black.

When training, on a mission, or just generally not sleeping or doing something productive, your hair is left down. However, it is otherwise up, styled up so that it is in a very high ponytail, which is then braided into many small braides (with some dyed red). Your skin is fair, although a little unnaturally pale for being out in the sun for so long. Your nails are really short, from your bad habit of biting your nails. Your height, although To sum it up, you're not ugly, and if it weren't for the fact that you were a missing-nin for quite a time (see History), you'd probably have a few admirers. Being pretty tall, you're 5"0', which is one inch taller than Sasuke.

Outfit: [Casual] Black and red are the dominant colours in your casual outfit, although the outfit you wear on missions and other such things is different. Most of your casual wardrobe, as already stated, consists of the colours black and red. For your main casual outfit, you wear a black meshed/netted short-sleeved shirt that reaches your waste, with a red, sleeveless shirt that stops short above your belly button. The mesh/netted shirt is attached to a plain, black leather choker around your neck.

Then, even over that, you wear a black, short-sleeved jacket that you always leave open. On your right arm is a black armwarmer-type things, much like Sasuke's, while on your left arm are black straps wrapped around it, crossing each other up to your elbow. Fishnet leggings run from your ankles to your knees. Black cargo shorts are what you wear on your lower body. Complete with your casual outfit is black combat boots that end just above your ankle.

[Mission, Training, etc.] Being the ninja you are, you know it's best to be able to blend in with you surroundings. During such times when casual-wear is not appropriate, you wear a skin-tight black shirt with long sleeves. Over that, you wear a pocketed brown top, which could have been considered a vest had it not been for the short, dark green sleeves. Also, you wear brown cargo shorts much like that of your black pair you use for casual clothing. You wear the tradition ninja sandals the rest of the team wears.

Personality: You're often brooding and thinking of things, pursuing the answers to the many questions that arise in your mind, be they ones about your past, who you are, ninja-related things (such as tactics and strageties), or philosophical things. Because of this and your wide range of thoughts and ponderings, you have an steadfast opinion on a lot of things, and hold true to those opinions. Often lost in your thoughts, you don't speak much; not that you would, though. You are very quiet and shy, and hate the feeling of rejection, and are hesitant to do anything that may cause you to make a fool of yourself or for others to think badly of you or reject you. You constantly think that you are never 'good enough' (which could be why you always train so stubbornly. Sometimes, you train so hard so, you almost train yourself to death - literally; you're trying to train so that you're 'good enough').

On the other hand, when you are around someone you particularly trust, know or like, or feel comfortable and at ease around, you can be quite the opposite. When around someone like this, you are more talkative and open, and 'come out of your shell', so to speak, although on the inside you're still feeling much anxiety in regard to doing something foolish. Sometimes, although it is rare for you, you can actually feel happy and hyper, even to the point of annoyance like Naruto. When around people you know and trust, you even smile more than usual. This same, more confident persona holds true when training or in battle; you can be pretty fierce during such times. At times, you can be a pretty hellish person when pissed off or feeling particularly dark - during which, you lash out readily at others and can be pretty harsh and cruel. All in all, you personality varies along with the circumstances and situations you find yourself in.

[Also:] You really like animals, and consider yourself a 'cat person'. ^__^

History: Being the only child of your family, you would think that you'd get plenty of attention and love from your parents. This was never the case, however. Your parents were anbu leaders, which meant they spent much time away from home and on missions. You were often alone with the rest of the Nodoshita clan, all of which had never regarded you kindly because of your parents. They often referred to your parents as 'monsters' although you never knew why, but they would take their anger towards your parents out on you. When your parents were home, they were always pushing you to train your clan bloodline limit and become a powerful ninja, often pushing you so far that you'd become severely hurt - and still then, they'd tell you to get right back up and continue training.

Desperate for their love and affection, you pushed yourself to always do better as a shinobi, hoping that they would love you as a parent should for it. But no matter what you did, it never seemed good enough for them. By the time you were 8, you had mastered some of the Rekkai Genkai of your clan (Air, Light; see below for details), and had surpassed all others that had trained at the Academy. You had been trained at home by your parents (whenever they were actually around), but once you were unnofficially allowed to be a Genin (despite not going to the academy), you joined Kakashi's team at the time, whose two other members were the son and daughter of friends of your parents.

You stayed with this team for awhile. From there (even if your parents scoffed and said that you still weren't good enough), your parents took you to be personally tested to become a Jounin. You passed, and became an official Konoha Jounin Ninja at the age of 9. However, your celebration and good feelings were short-lived; after successfully becoming a Jounin, your parents asked you to do one last thing for them and then they will love you, as they had put it.

They requested you kill the rest of your clan, you were struck with horror. They were using you to kill the rest of the clan, the clan that hated them just as much as your parents hated them. When you refused, your parents decided it would 'fun' if they killed the clan - including themselves - leaving only you to be left to blame, because they were truely twisted shinobi who took joy in killing and watching others suffer and go through torture. Even you, their own daughter, became an object for their own twisted fetish. Scared to death of the consequences, of what would happen to you if people really believed that you had killed your clan, you ran off out of Konoha and into the forest after your parents did, without returning for four years.

During the four years as a missing nin, you became stronger and were able to master more of your Rekkai Genkai. Then, after four years, you decide to finally return to your home, to Konoha.

Rekkai Genkai: Known as the Kakiyomiyara [Kah-kee-yo-me-yah-rah], it is a bloodline trait that resides in the eye. When activated, the eye of the user becomes a complete white, with a comma shape for every part of the Rekkai Genkai mastered. There are six in all for each element. Each element has a different comma color. (Fire is red, Air is a light lavender/white, Earth is brown, water is dark blue, darkness is black, and light is very light blue.)

In general, this trait allows the user increased awareness of a person's chakra level, chakra flow, and the ability to manipulate the chakra to some level. If Genjutsu is attainable by the victim looking directly into the user's eyes, the user can use the victim's chakra against them, making it so the victim thinks they are being harmed or attacked in some way by the chosen element of the user. (ex. Think they are on fire, being sucked of air, drowning, etc.)

Another feature of the Rekkai Genkai is activating a particular part of it, if it is mastered. Doing so gives you control (to some level - Chakra DOES have aName: Nodoshita Hitoko [No-do-she-tuh, He-to-ko] (last name, first name; The last name is a combination of the words 'quiet' and 'calm', while the first name is a combination of 'hidden' and 'strength'.
